Villa Attems is a historic noble residence, still owned by the eponymous family. The property, along with its agricultural outbuildings, forms a small hamlet overlooking a five-hectare terraced park.
The history of Villa Attems was first documented in the late 16th century, and the estate has passed directly within the same family, from father to son, for 375 years, right up to the present day.
The generously sized park has been cited as one of the most beautiful in Italy and remains enclosed by original late 18th-century walls.
Its interior features a fountain designed by the illustrious architect of Maria Theresa of Austria, Nicolò Pacassi, commissioned by the family; a well; and a bunker dating back to the First World War, built in 1917 by the Second Army Sappers, whose officers occupied the villa for several months, as the village of Lucinico was the last bastion of Friuli, strategically perfect for the capture of Gorizia during the Great War.
The barchessa and the old stables, part of Villa Attems’ agricultural outbuildings, have been completely restored, and in 1965 the main villa underwent its first major renovation by renowned architect Aldo Cervi, a close collaborator of Umberto Nordio.
Villa Attems also produces fragrances tied to the region under the “Acqua del Collio” brand, with special home fragrances and unique eau de parfum for both men and women.
